I am buying a Bmw IX and planning on putting 7 MSD’s down, anyone have a problem getting them back from BMW, or is there anything I should think about before putting them down?
Absolutely nothing to worry about regarding MSDs…just make sure lease contract calls out the correct amount and total value of them.
As I tell everyone, it’s mainly just things like losing a key, etc. If there is a lease end charge, it’ll be dedicated and then the rest returned, but it’s not like you could avoid the charge anyway (besides the usual dispute process, or getting whatever it is fixed, etc).
MSD’s are handled by BMWFS, not the dealer, you’re not relying on a dealership to refund you, so that alone should add comfort.
So the only real issue is if you want to transfer your lease right? Because the MSD’s would be the new owners?
Correct, if you want part or all of them back, the assuming party would need to pay you the MSD’s as part of the transfer process, because they’ll be returned to them at the end of the lease.
IMO, of all the captives out there, BMWFS is the one that has been the most efficient and reliable. They have well laid out processes and timelines. MSD’s are handled well by them whether for lease buyouts or turn-ins.
They really exemplify how good they are in the lease transfer process too. You can do a lease transfer in under a week now that they switched to eSign. Even when you had to FedEx docs, if you overnighted them, you could still do an assumption in under 2 weeks.
The few bmw leases I took to the end of the term they nickel and dimed me for the most minor or even non existent wear and tear. Since they already have your money they’re less likely to negotiate with you on those items.
If I leased bmw again I would make sure it’s something I can transfer or sell before lease end. Doing so with msds is tougher to transfer but certainly not impossible if you get a good deal.
My experiences were pre Covid. I’m not sure if bmw has changed since then. Just make sure to take plenty of pictures of the car before returning it so you have proof of no damage.
That’s surprising to hear. I haven’t taken many to term but when my i3 ended, it had 2 curbed wheels, a scratched up rear bumper, some light damage on the passenger door, and a small stain on the cloth interior (this was a shared family vehicle, my own vehicles go back better than new) and they literally only charged me for a missing key (which is fair enough).
I guess it’s luck of the draw. I took 2 out of 7 to term and there was bogus charges on both of them. I got some removed but it took several calls and lots of time on hold to get it done. This was while I had an i8 lease and loyalty for several others. I tried to use that as leverage and they were still pretty terrible to deal with.
Regardless it’s ideal to not return any lease if you can imo. Just to avoid any potential issues.
Definitely sounds like bad luck. The dealer I returned my i3 to didn’t even know I had MSDs.
May not be uncommon since the MSDs are with BMWFS and not the dealer.
