BMW lease return

We had a pre-inspection done approx 1 month prior to lease end at the time of regular service. No itens were communicated, our service report didn’t indicate any excessively worn tires. At disposition they pulled up this report that was never provided and attempted to charge us for 3 tires and a $100 scratch in addition to the disposition fee (or release). “Independent” inspection noted 2 tires and the $100 mark now is $800. If we were provided with items of deficiency we would have replaced/rectified. Scam artists! 8th vehicle leased between me and my spouse over the past 12 years and will never go back to BMW.

@Brooke_Midgley_Abson you are given an actual “report” when you pre-inspection report is done. On that report is the tread wear of your tires at the time of the pre inspection as well as the milage. If you had plenty of tread left and only drove 1000 mi in the last month then you could have shown them the report and that should have settled it. It sounds to me that you didn’t get an actual pre inspection done but someone from service just “glanced” at your car and said “all good” which is not a proper pre inspection. I’m assuming a lot here but that’s what it sounded like to me. The report at the end of the lease is a Final inspection report. They look the car over when you return it. So you should have two reports to compare. Also, you could have just not returned the car at that moment and said “ill come back tomorrow”. You’d be a day or two late returning the car but a few days don’t really matter in my experience. They give you some grace period if you asked them. All you tell them is that you’re finalizing the deal on another BMW (they don’t really check), I need the car for another couple days they would have let you keep it and then you could have used that time to buy cheap used tires or whatever to satisfy the inspector.

Just curious. If you take it to another dealer to do inspection lease end would it help?

Meaning the first inspector is void.

Edit: Turning in my first lease (Audi a4) in a long time to Audi. Doubt an A5 sportback will have a good lease so I won’t be getting another one most likely.

Bought my last lease in 2009 acura tsx. Thing still runs like a champ.

Ok Guys was able to return my BMW 528 lease without any issues. No surprise charges, I went over the mileage limit so prepaid it directly over the phone. Should have to pay $350 disposition fee if I don’t lease or buy another BMW within 6 months.

@gluck good stuff…how much was the extra miles/how many miles did you go over?

12000 miles

ouch!!! that burns!!!

Well I am fine with it. I knew it getting into the deal, it was a loss leader for the dealer. So for less than $600 a month I drove a $55K car for three years. I would have lost way more had I bought it.

Anyone ever been charged for uneven wear, as opposed to not enough tread?

Hello, new to this forum. Great that everyone jumps in to help others!
Caught a road hazard and poked hole through windshield and headlamp. Replacing hood and windshield at collision shop. Hood is aftermarket and I am not sure if windshield will be Original OEM with BMW logo on it as Allstate had relationship with Safelight and they will replace. Anyone know if they check numbers matching on hood and if they look for the BMW logo on the windshield?

Many thanks!

Hello all new here to the forum. Awesome group. Question regarding curb burns on a wheel. I have 1 wheel that has about 1 3"x1" burn from a very nice neighborhood curb. How does BMW account for this and I didn’t purchase that obnoxiously priced warranty for such an occurrence.

Thanks

DABA

BMW will not charge for curb burns on a wheel regardless of the size. Mine was 7" X 1" long and was noted on the return inspection report and marked as non-chargeable.

Interesting, since they sell a ‘warranty’ for such occurrence to prevent a charge at return. While you may of not been charged I’m curious other members experience or thoughts.

To say that is incorrect. They MAY charge you, as others have been dinged for curb rash.

Wheels and tires

Acceptable:
• Minor scuffs or nicks to wheel covers or alloys that fall within the 4" outer circle of the Evaluator.

I couldn’t find the US link but this is for Canada:

Looks to me that any wheel scuffs under 4" are ok unless it’s different in the US. Best to call BMWFS.

So glad I found this. I have been looking at X3’s and took my 3 series in and they did the “inspection” but I didn’t get any report. She just said it was all good. I was somewhat surprised by that, since it does have some dings that I thought would register. Is it possible to ask for the report now that it was roughly a week ago? Or were they probably just BSing?

Also, I’ve got about 10,000 miles LEFT on a lease with only a month to go. I’ve seen that BMW offers (insultingly little) credit. How do I account for that?

I did not get a report either when I turned in my 3 last year. All I did was sign an iPad confirming my return mileage.
Dealer said as soon as I sign the iPad, car now belongs to BMWFS.
BMWFS later (2weeks after I turned in my car) sent me an e-mail with a link on the inspection report that was done by Autovin. I had quite a number of dings and scratches and also some curb rashes but all was considered normal wear and tear

same here I had a pre inspection by them and had $400 / excessive wear charge then when I turned the car in, it was up to $822. double! along with a disposition fee of $350 plus taxes I am looking at over $1200. I want to fight it with legal action because I am thinking this is a scam and a way to get you to re-lease ( $1200 is three months payment for me). I am furious! and feel taken advantage of and dupped.

You’ll spend thousands on attorneys. A poor use of time and money. Ask for photos of the damage (not sure if BMW provides that in the report)

thank you I was going to defend myself and take them to small claims court in my home town. It is below $5000. and I can defend myself at least I will have it on record and they will have to come to my hometown to defend or lose by default
