BMW iX - All Electric SUV Discussion

See you in November.

Probably sooner than that. No chance BMW will move these monstrosities unless they make their lease program more attractive again.

Aren’t the 2025 models going to be coming soon? IIRC, the iX line goes down in February, and then turns over in March to the new model year. Maybe they will blow out any MY 2024 inventory in the coming months?

My theory.

And this is just a theory:

BMW is getting wrecked offering the iX 50e on current programs (and even worse on Dec’s programs) aside from being able to add to BEV sales numbers…

Introducing a new base tier (40e) more suitable to volume production and potentially even under the $80,000 base price cap could be the play and the first step of that is to start backing off on 50e incentives.

I still can’t get my head around why they don’t offer the iX40 in the US!! I thought it was a North American cultural thing, but why do our Canadian brothers get it and we don’t?

To compete with Tesla who claims 300+ figures for their SUVs

The sad thing is the iX 40e would still stomp on the Model Y 4680 in real world range.

One of my buddies has one and if he gets 200mi on 70mph average 100-10% it’s a win.

No one on LH - maybe. I have a few friends paying $1100-$1300 on ix50 100k-102k msrp (in nj) no tax. a few months ago. Not everyone knows or cares about the best deal

It may come back for 2024 iX xDrive50 and may be M60 once the model year 2025 rolls out. That will just be to finish off 2024 inventory (April through June). Then may be in fall (Sept) we may see incentives for iX 2025.

You guys are acting like there are no incentives remaining. If BMW can sell an X3 for $600/mo and X5 for $900/mo (or more) then why won’t the IX sell??

Because in general EV are selling much slower than ICEV.

And X5 leases better than GLE so in a relative sense it’s fine. IX leases need to be compared against Mercedes EVs

Because they’re 22.5k expensiver than a model X?
model X starts with 72.5k after credit, with air suspension and 1s faster 0-60, better charging network etc.
an iX with air suspension and a/c seat and autopilot costs ~95k at least.

Let alone people just don’t trust EV from other brands, my friends are shocked I bought an iX like I made a terrible mistake until I explain a bit and they got one within the same week with the deals

Should an egg be counted as a chicken before hatching?

The $7,500 isn’t guaranteed (income based) and you also left out the destination and order fees.

(No bias here. We have a new MX and an iX still in the fleet, soon to be replaced)

To me the iX is one of those cars you need to drive for a few days and you quickly realize comparing it to a Tesla is laughable. Yes the grill takes time to get used to but interior/feel/quality and tech + arrangement is far superior.

I think EV in general has a negative stigma because everyone is worried about range as the big bad wolf but the iX gets 310-340 miles per charge and its very unlikely someone is driving that everyday unless you are @IAC  but regardless, the ease of charging + local driving outweighs ICE cars.

It will take time via through better charging networks, educating the public and social media to raise understanding and adoption. I may be grilled for this but Tesla is able to move so much because its simple, it was the “cool” cause of Elon Musk - and its the same people who are die hard Apple users if you get what I mean.

Also when you read forums and people are complaining about charge times when they have a Chevy Bolt charging at a 350kWH station with an output of 30 kwH and wondering why its not 350kwH as advertised

BMW just reported year-end sales for 2023, IX was +205% y-o-y and X5 was -11.9% y-o-y. X3 sales are -23%. What saved BMW’s ICE segment was the X1 at +196% (the cheapest SUV model). Only 30% of IX sales were in 4Q, so 70% of IX were sold at programs worse than Nov/Dec.

IX leases MUCH cheaper than a Model X, even under Jan programs. Why are we comparing MSRPs? MX lease is hot garbage.

And… This.

Are the absolute numbers anywhere close? It’s easy to show big gains from small baselines.

Numbers of units sold and days supply would be useful context around these YOY percentages

NTM how much of the gain came from BMW juicing the IX programs starting in Q4?

2. 2022 BMW IX XDrive50

MotorTrend Road-Trip Range: 312 miles
EPA Range: 315 miles

BMW is the only manufacturer to end up with two separate models in the top ten from our testing this year. Unique for its brushed AC motors that don’t use expensive magnets, the iX xDrive50 takes the second spot with 312 miles of range. Just when we thought we would miss the turbo V-8 available in the X5 and X6, the iX quickly reminded us that a BMW can appeal to driving enthusiasts regardless of what powers the wheels. On top of superb handling and 516 hp, its luxurious and forward-thinking design starts at a reasonable $84,195. Remember the “entry-level” EQS450+? The iX is a bargain in comparison.

Negative is negative. X3 and X5 sales are shrinking. IX outsold the X4 and X6 in total units at 17.3K. Yes, they still sold more X5’s (72K) but that could flip in under two years at current pace. 70% of IX sold 1Q to 3Q.

I’m just predicting programs will have to improve, again. We can agree to disagree on that.

As long as we are not peddling the narrative, because EV sales suck at BMW, we do agree. The X1 sold well because it’s the cheapest BMW SUV, not because its ICE. Cheap sells…
