Lol. If you get the m sport package, like my 740i,
the complete set costs me $1700. So when I return it, the $750 lease return protection is so worth it. Again it’s not apples to apples. If you have the basic tires and wheels. No need to get it. Lol
Cheap fools? He said they charged $2k. Plus I assume they tack it into financing too?
Tires are not $2k. Prob between $800-$1k. Rims can be repaired. End of story.
For $750, sure. It was offered to me at like $1500-$1800 iirc. Some stupid amount.
It won’t cost 2K to replace all four tires and that is IF I need to replace them. If so, fine then be it, I’d rather pay for it when the moment comes out of pocket.
There’s also something called comprehensive & collision car insurance that I pay for. I’ve already confirmed with my insurance company that it will cover all large dings/dents/scratches/rim damage minus the 500 deductible of course.
It bothers me why BMW & dealers will push these expensive products to double up on comprehensive/collision car insurance in the first place?
$750 may be worth it. I do not have M sport package and I don’t think my 18’’ RFT cost that much. I just checked the price on 18’’ Pirelli RFTs and it costs ~200 each. ![]()
They charged me $2k end of lease protection + $1.5k wheels & tire protection which every time I think about it, the prices are absurd. Only people that should get that are people who lease really expensive M cars and drive aggressive.
To make money after they’ve made none selling vehicles.
Spoken like a true dealer. Its best if you leave your dealer ways outside.
Well, mine was 2 years ago and I forgo the wheel & tire protection for mine since they’re charging me $2500. $750 2 years ago was the lowest price, maybe now it went up but definitely not $1500.
And this is F& I commission. Plus dealers income. I’m glad that we have this community that helps each other.
Exactly lol.
All I can say as a multiple time BMW leasee, at $750-$995 it is worth every single penny. Covers the tires right there. Dont. EVER Make an Insurance claim for wear and tear issues as it will raise your premiums for the next 7 years. Lease Wear and Tear and Extended Warranties are worth their weight in gold ESPECIALLY if you paid the right price. People forget that the price of these coverages is negotiable, just like the price of the car is. At $2000 you will never recoup your cost, but at under $1000 it has already paid for itself.
Yes, Leasehackr community has been invaluable to me as a first time leaser trying not to get ripped off. They almost got me with those expensive add on insurance packages at the end but again the community came through! ![]()
Understood about the insurance claim, thanks for the info.
I did not know the cost of those additional insurance packages were negotiable. I still think $2k + $1.5k was too expensive. Maybe if I got it for like ~$1k I would’ve signed it and not felt like I got ripped off.
I will keep that in mind for my next lease!
7 years is a bit much. Maybe 5? Also those wear and tear things only cover “incidents” up to $1k in damage each so anything over that, you’re screwed anyway.
You’re assuming every single tire needs to be replaced at time of turn in, which assumes someone’s driving in at 36 months on bad tires? I’m already assuming all tires are getting replaced on mine around 20k.
Like most insurance, it’s a gamble. For some it works, for most it apparently doesn’t as everyone knows these are huge profit turners for dealers or else they wouldn’t push them so hard. If everyone was coming out even or ahead on these, wouldn’t happen.
Finance guy is trying to make $$$ as he gets paid on commission. The $2000 for wear and tear is like the MSRP on the car. The margins are much higher in finance though and his cost is most likely closer to $750. In finance everything is negotiable!
Do you have health insurance?
Noted, thanks! I think Leasehackr should create an informative post about these additional lease coverages finance guys try to throw at you when you go in to sign a lease. I could’ve even tried to negotiate on the prices had I known in advance! Like I said, I may have even signed up for it if the cost was under $1K.
I’d rather put $1k in a 3 year CD as that would certainly pay for tires, cut financing costs and leave me with a few bucks extra.
Don’t really see the comparison to health insurance but we get it, you feel it’s a good purchase, the other people on this board do not.
There is plenty of LH general wisdom here that is not followed (don’t put money down at signing, for one)- as always, it’s really up to the persons own discretion. risk management and penny pinching at the end of the day.
Insurance hike could be worse…
Yes that is true. I’ll just drive super carefully at all times lol.
