I think it’s worth mentioning to anyone considering doing business with HN308 that his “refundable” deposit is not in fact refundable and he will be loaded with excuses and arguments to defend the fine print on his “refundable” deposit.
I understand your frustration of paying a deposit and not going through with completing the transaction but I did all the work I promised which was finding the actual tax rates, dmv costs for your zip and generating a formal quote for a car you asked for. Many out of state customers like yourself gladly pay me $100 just to generate a formal quote from a dealership and use it to negotiate with their dealer and I have no problem with that either. I offered you to generate another quote when you are ready for free so you can leverage it and negotiate yourself.
I have been clear and have posted it multiple times in this thread that the deposit is refundable only if you can beat the deal I would present on a formal quote from any dealer or broker. I am not sure what is fine print in a simple condition for the refund which looks like you misunderstood. Just beat my quote for a similar car and i will gladly refund the deposit.
The point of taking deposit is to deter people from asking for quotes without any intention of leasing/purchasing the vehicle. If I keep on refunding deposits if one don’t like the car or numbers than what is the point of taking the deposit. If you were super particular about a build you could have custom ordered a car or be upfront that I will only take a car with certain build and we wouldn’t have initiated the transaction.
You asked for a 5 series with m-sport from what I believe as this is a 3 mth old transaction, I gave you the options I had with a spec sheets and you asked for a formal quote which I generated.
If you didn’t like the specs you should have declined the car and not got anything done and I would have refunded and be done with it.

This is exactly what happened, yet the deposited wasn’t refunded when requested. I think you have another opportunity here to do what’s right. I understand time is valuable, I’m in sales myself. But when you know a customer is legitimately interested in doing business but the deal falls through for one reason or another, the right thing to do isn’t to take their money. That just ensures they will never work with you again, be upset, leave bad reviews, bad word of mouth, and so on. If once again, you are claiming you will refund the deposit then please do so and let’s be done with it and move it.
The guy says he charges $100 for running out of region quotes. This is done to prevent tire-kickers. That’s the service that the $100 covers. If you had him to do this service, he did what he promised he’d do for that $100 (i.e. he sent you what he had available and then you asked for a formal quote). Kind of unfair to roast him over his business practice when he openly discloses it to you.
I think it’s absolutely valid. @HN308’s response should be insert your own tax rate outside of NJ/NY into a blank leasehackr calc pending registration charges- no sweat on his end. If the customer doesn’t go through with the transaction due to the “mystery build” not being to his liking, that’s on the broker not the customer. It’s sales, you don’t get paid on deals you don’t close.
agreed, it’s not policy that i would utilize or condone - i delete out of region inquiries as a waste of time to start, but if this was explicitly stated to the inquirer, and he chose to follow through on it, that’s on him.
The whole problem is that it isn’t disclosed as a one time non-refundable fee for taking the time to run a quote. He advertises it as a “refundable deposit”. I have texts of him saying send a $100 deposit and if I can’t find what you like I will refund the deposit. I’m happy to post screenshots. Again, it’s $100 but it’s shady business practices. I think it’s fair that everyone considering utilizing his services understands how he operates.
