Leases a Toyota from Jim (great to work with) last year and bought it out. I’m driving more than expected and it’s the only vehicle for a family of 4 (2 kids under 5). Fuel was ~$220/month.
Thinking about selling the car and dumping the money back in the market (nothing stupid, more like (VTI, QQQ, SCHD, GLD). Then get a decently priced EV.
The dream EV is a macan but pricey. Rivians are nice but not leasing well. I’ve tried the Korean products and don’t like them (ev9/ioniq5). I couldn’t live either the ultra cheap blazer (can afford to live a little). Lexus Rz…maybe the new 26 model with more range but the current one gives me range anxiet despite the nice interior.
The bmw i4 is too small for the wife’s liking. iX looks great but the 7.5miles advertised with brokers is too little. 10k is my absolute lowest limit—12k is more realistic of my driving habits.
Open to the EV trucks (f150, Silverado). But Tesla MY with $0 down is about $500 36/10k, $536 36/15. Seems decent.
What are some recommendation? Would like to stay below $650/month.
You can lease a BMW for as many miles as you want, in theory. I have never advertised a car with only 7,500 miles, but an iX will also be more than $650.
Have you taken into consideration the time and cost of charging a car if you’re driving a lot?
Also consider the insurance costs as well. EVs are generally much higher, especially Teslas. Get quotes on some of the vehicles you are considering to get a real picture.
Deals are advertised this way simply because it generates the most enticing payment. First and arguably the hardest step in securing a sale is getting someone to respond to an offer.
You always have the option to select the mileage threshold you need.
This impacts the residual value and therefore the payment, but has nothing to do with the quality of the deal.
7.5k generates the lowest payments. They will have higher mileage options with an increase in monthly payments. It is usually a $20-$30/mo jump as you go from 7.5k to 10k to 12k, etc.
The math doesn’t make sense to me. What are you driving currently? 220 dollars a month on gas should be getting you around 65 gallons of gas. At 25 mpg that’s 1,625 miles a month or 19,500 a year. And if you are getting better mileage or cheaper gas, it could be many more miles. Driving that much you need a high mileage lease or perhaps stay with the Toyota.
So, I got a model y after my AMG eqe was totaled as there are no good deals currently.
It’s a crappy deal if you look at msrp. 500+ a month for a 40+k msrp car, vs a AMG eqe suv at 700+ a month for a 130k+ msrp car. If you go by msrp rule, it never makes sense to get a Tesla lease.
However, as a daily commute appliance for getting from A to B, sad to say, it’s actually pretty nice. No luxury, no fun, no excitement, no smiles, but it kind of just works. It’s like wearing a Nike vs an Hermes sneakers. Every time my Mercedes turns on and plays that sound, I had a little anxiety about whether the red icon of death will show up and I need to call a tow truck. So are you getting a good deal with a model Y? Hell no. But it’s a reasonable car for the price.
kind of feel the same way about my ZDX. I got it since it was a great deal as a second car. But my wife has made it her car over our XC90 PHEV. The back up camera always works and it’s more reliable.
