Do you compile this list or use a website to show you, etc? I have a bunch of cards and it would be nice to have an aggregation, i’ve begun to lose track!
There’s an app called CardPointers that does this fairly well.
Also for those looking for best overall daily cash back on anything:
2.5% after 90 days/10k per month (with a few hoops to jump through: monthly savings and a checking account there) https://www.alliantcreditunion.org/bank/visa-signature-card
Also Discover IT Miles is 1.5% but they double it at year end with no cap so you get 3%
https://refer.discover.com/s/harrydogyo
I just put that summary together for this thread (with help from Word to Clean HTML ).
At this point I’m on autopilot for which cards to use when/where, but that’s taken some time.
I do keep my eyes open for new cards that do something better than the ones I already have, and will add one for that reason from time to time.
I have more trouble tracking unused one-off travel card benefits, like the annual $200 prepaid hotel credit from Amex Platinum**, AA companion certificates, Marriott single-night certificates from the Amex Vonboy card, etc.).
** Just this week I remembered to use this one for the first time ever, on a trip we’re taking later this month. The FH&R benefits are a nice bonus!
Best non-signing bonus I’ve had was the Best Buy Visa Card Utility Bonus in the first quarter of 2020…10% in rewards on all utilities. No cap. They’ve done it since, but capped at $75 in rewards (or $1500 spend).
I prepaid a bunch, but should have prepaid a couple years worth.
I also got 10% back in rewards on my first purchase…which was a $2000+ washer/dryer combo.
And Best Buy rewards are even better as they function like a coupon…so you don’t pay tax on that amount, which made the bonus 11% here in Los Angeles.
Financial “experts” who say you should never open up “store cards” are idiots…that only applies to people who are financially reckless or can’t pay their cc bills in full every month.
This is as old as the internet, but that won’t stop me from posting it here. ![]()
Some credit card issuers will forgive a small balance at the time the statement cycle closes.
Presumably this goes back to the time when the cost of printing, handling and postage for paper statements was a factor.
From my collection, Wells Fargo:

Discover:
There are numerous lists floating around with more comprehensive lists of issuers and their corresponding thresholds for writing off balances at the end of a statement cycle.
Note that the purchases themselves generally earn rewards, so as an example, forgiven $2 purchases on the Wells Fargo Cash Wise card are actually worth $2.04. ![]()
Are you short-paying your bills to get that statement credit? Calling and asking for it?
The discover ones are automatic, I think I should put some .99 iCloud plan on discover and get it for “free”.
It’s automatic. If the would-be statement balance is at/under the issuer’s threshold ($2 in both of these cases), they just zero out the bill and there’s nothing due.
I was bored on a long flight recently, and again found a list of other issuers to try, so we’ll see if PenFed refunds this $1 charge. … although routinely panhandling for one dollar at a time from this subprime credit union may be beneath even my dignity.
I would hope so.
Why not drive either of your BMWs from convenient store to convenient store, taking all the pennies left in a jar on the counter?
I’m sure there are people on LH who don’t want to pay the bills they ran up, $2 or less at a time. I prefer to pay all my bills.
My threshold is apparently $2.
At the rate of $2 a month, it will take Discover 107.33 more years to make me whole for all of the Discover Deals they failed to track and pay properly before they exited the shopping portal business.
U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card
Get ready to earn up to 6% cash back at your favorite retailers – and more! The U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards Card is a flexible, one-stop shopping tool, built for powerful earn potential.
Hook line and sinker…6% is the new 3% a pre inflation.
Is this for the quarter that were already 12 days into? Or if you don’t have coverage for some of these places already, this is great. I already get 5% back at target And Amazon from their cards, Apple card is 3% and then ebates has another one percent so I guess if you’re buying a laptop and want to save 4 more dollars.
6% on lulu is dangerous
6% Lowes/Depot. Cha ching.
Lowes CC gives you 5% everyday at Lowes. HD will usually match the discount when using your HD card.
im sure we all have military relatives/friends, use their phone number at lowes (if they are registered) extra 10% off + credit card points @alphawave7 @jeisensc
I’m not comfortable stealing any more valor than I already have, but good hack.
The card isn’t out yet, but you can join the waitlist (I detest this marketing tactic, but they didn’t consult me).
The announcement doesn’t specifically state that there’s no annual fee, so I’m sorta waiting for that shoe to drop. (although I’m guessing no, since there’s a $1,500 quarterly cap on 6% purchases and $1,500 cap on the 3% purchases)
5% compared to 6% gets you 17% less back on every purchase. ![]()
