Do you guys think it’s in bad taste to back out of a deal at the last minute after working on it for over a month?

Prob not worth posting this if we’re being honest. It’s just going to allow people an opportunity to make you feel bad. If you have another buyer for the car, it doesn’t matter. If not, you wasted their time.
They definitely will. They just may not treat you as well or as serious.
Frankly, what anyone writes here will be just an opinion.

Do your thing and don’t sweat it. Apologize, set up your friend and move on. I can’t remember how many times i talked to sales people about a particular car just to end up at the dealership and having them apologize that they just sold it. Appointments and everything! This is a business transaction so treat it as such.

I don’t understand the purpose of this post. Do you want someone to make your mind up for you? Hold your hand? Assuage your guilt conscience?

If you’re backing out of what we would consider a unicorn deal, expect not to see another one from them.
If it’s a run of the mill deal, then maybe a chance of doing business with them in the future.

@Bunny I’ve done it - but it’s for a really legitimate reason in addition to working on the deal for only 24hrs. Family member passed away- another member moving in home during signing at the dealership and therefore I lost my last parking spot and our community doesn’t allow overnight street parking. And to be fair I also closed 2 cars personally with the salesperson in addition to referring people over.

Everyone is entitled to change their mind. Change it and move on. All will be tranquil in the world. If the dealer shuns you, they’re not your dealer.

At the end of the day you can’t do the deal. You need to deliver bad news, just do it with honesty and kindness and consider him in the future. And he likely won’t be happy but at least you found someone else to take your spot.
Realistically they may not even remember you in 3 years when you come back. Dealers change so frequently, I only had like 2 dealers after all these years that were still there 3 years later. It is your money and your decision. Don’t feel bad now and then regret it for 3 years, it will ruin your whole experience with the car. But don’t string them along, back out now and not the last day of the month. If it is such an amazing deal you can post it here and someone may take it.

If you really feel strongly about “keeping your word” and its such a great deal, grab it and then push it off onto someone else here on LH or SAL.

If it’s a 2018 330e, there’s more meat on that bone. 
Whatever, I just get suspect when people brag about how great their deal is and they don’t even post it. And then you throw this statement out there, (left the spelling mistake in)
“Right now they give me great deals since they know I’m a touch negotiator thanks to sites like these.”
For that deal, honestly. It’s worth the risk as if you really end up hating it, it’ll be easy to shove off onto someone else (Just make sure it’s actually a lease and not OC)

Out of all seriousness, if you know you’re not taking it and there are 9 days left in the month, pull the band aid off so they have more time to sell it.
Then, share the deal here and if it’s a great deal, someone will scoop it up and you can tell the dealer you found them a new buyer. If it’s not a great deal… well…you’ll know.
Just don’t drag it out longer than it needs to be.
