Audi dealer wants me to sign a new contract due to error on their part

I signed a deal on Saturday for an 2018 Audi A4 quattro premium plus.

Dealer finance guy called me today and said they calculated the wrong tax rate, and that Audi corporate wouldn’t accept the deal with the rate as signed, so they want me to sign a new contract but that my monthly amount isn’t changing because it was their mistake.

Am I getting screwed here?

EDIT: Forgot to add, he said something about Audi corporate not accepting the buy rate they used, whatever that means. Just wanted to add I’m familiar with a tactic where a dealer says “we made a mistake” and you come in to find the payment has gone up. Just want to be sure this isn’t that, especially since he said the payment wouldn’t change.

How, if your payments don’t change?

Not sure, just wanted to check before I signed anything.

Just read the new contract to make sure nothing else changed. If it’s an honest mistake, sign it.

So if they calculated your tax too high then you’ll get a lower payment, if the other way around then payment more. As long as base stays constant as they stated.

He said they had it at 7.75%, when it should be 8.75%. Also said something about not using the right buy rate, which is confusing because this was a lease. Either way he assured me (over the phone) the monthly won’t change.

On SOME level they are BSing you about something, but as long as the IMPORTANT stuff for the future is the same like miles per year and the payment is the same you’ll be ok.
Usually they eat the mistake to not piss you off. Just make sure it didn’t go from 12k to 10k miles is all.

What happens if they try and change the miles or the monthly payment? What are my options at that point?

Don’t sign the new contract if they increase the payment.

Right. You say the “the important things are payments at what I originally contracted at WITH 12k or 15k or 10k (whichever they are) and that’s the only terms at which I sign. Otherwise, find another way to get Audi to cash the contract.”

Every lease has an interest rate (money factor), so sounds like they screwed something up. Just review the big points (term, milage, monthly payment). If all is the same then just sign. If there is something different then don’t sign and have them fix it or give the car back. It happens, i would stress over it.

I’ve seen this - if the dealer is doing right by you, and not increasing the payment, you’re fine. Just make sure it isn’t with a 3rd party bank or something (I’ve seen this happen with BMW and people end up with a lease with a 3rd party bank that won’t allow transfers…)

Sometimes if they sell you a car and assume you qualify for the lowest MF and for some reason, they won’t buy at that rate, if they increase the discount slightly, they can make you whole with the same payment. That’s ok. If they are trying to screw you in some other way, be careful. Make sure none of the other parameters of the deal change.

It does happen once in a blue moon. For the most part a resign typically benefits the client and not the other way around. They will eat up whatever mistakes the dealership made to make sure the deal is funded especially after the client has already taken delivery of the car. Feel free to PM me the structure and I can look it over

@IvanAudi coming through for the assist. That’s awesome.

Thanks everyone! Turned out they used the wrong zip code, which resulted in the wrong tax calculation being used. Signed a new contract with the correct tax, and they’re eating the difference.
