Any VacationHackrs?

The maintenance never decreases. My dad got drunk and suckered into a timeshare biggest waste of money ever. I did the math it’s cheaper to just rent a place where and when you want to go. The only time it could be worth it is if you love going back to the same place over and over and in that case just buy your own house or condo in the area and have something to show for your money…

I went to a presentation once bc we were suckered into it with a free excursion. After 2 hours of them badgering me the price dropped like 80% and I had to rudely tell them to eff off and let me leave. They did plow me with champagne and cocktails the whole time. I can only imagine the commissions those guys make

I purchased a few every other year(EOY) timeshare at the Four Seasons Aviara for essentially nothing by getting a free week. It’s worked out really well, I’ve been able to rent it out easily on RedWeek to cover the maintenance fees, and it also gives me access to Elite Alliance and ThirdHome. The key to getting the most out of Elite Alliance or ThirdHome is being flexible with your travel dates and destinations. Friends and Family have also used Elite Alliance. Stayed at some great places the Reefs in Bermuda, Whiteface Lodge, Aspen Mountain Residences, Sea Isle City Home , etc. Majority people buying timeshares regret it, but I have been very happy with it, just need to understand the process(e.g. owning multiple same weeks gives you 13 month window to book vs 12 month window at Four Seasons).

This is the same key with any other travel hack by pretty much travelling either on date when others don’t or to places that others dont.

Or in case of leasing - leasing cars that others don’t want to like EVs to have them dirt cheap:)

Hacking hotel stays using points are much easier to accomplish than trying to make timeshare works for you.

Agree, plenty of manufactured spend angles and CC SUBs still to get points and free nights.

True. But the general idea remains - flexibility.

Flexibility is probably THE biggest key for any portion of travel

Not many 2 + bedroom places with points. I use both points and timeshare. Marriott used to be great with vacation packages that included airline miles, those are gone now, and they devalued points so much. Actually went to the Pats Giants 2nd superbowl in Indy on Marriott points. Awesome trip.
