Any VacationHackrs?

I decided to give it a try.

I called in before booking this and the agent couldn’t mentally process my hypothetical question.

So I made the reservation and then called and asked specifically about what would happen if I canceled this specific ticket after 24 hours, and I was assured that the cancelation would result in an AA Trip Credit that I can use to rebook something else directly with AA.

Worst case that fails. I have a trip planned from mid-November thru late December with relatively fixed dates on both ends, so I can burn a Chase Travel credit on that.

I’ll cancel this in a day or two and report back.

Heading to NYC for an event for 2 days. Any restaurant recommendations around the Hudson Yard to Bryant Park area? Not looking for fine dining — just something easy and yummy.

Can’t go wrong almost anywhere in NYC :slightly_smiling_face:

see if you can grab reservations at Sushi Koya. It’s worth it.

Agree with the bear, many awesome choices. But if you don’t mind hiking a few blocks north, there’s Urban Hawker (food court/hall, Asian street food, 135 W 50th St, New York, NY 10020). A little pricey, but pretty legit :+1:

For Hudson Yards - Electric Lemon in Equinox for Happy Hour. Dinner - eat at one of the eateries like Mercado Little Spain for casual good meal.

Hard to recall anything unique there. Hudson Yards is the textbook definition of a manufactured destination. Fancy and forgettable

I assume your event will finish and you’ll have the evening free? Head over to SoHo/Nolita/Chinatown. There’s good Banh Mi there. Nyonya on Grand St for Malaysian food. Try the Java Mee, a dish that most Malay joints here don’t even attempt.

Or just south of NYU in the Macdougal & Bleecker neighborhood. All holes in the walls.

TLDR: Didn’t work out very well on my AA booking, so I’m going to use the flight I originally booked, vs. canceling for a credit to use on something else.

Original premise was to cancel this for a Trip Credit that could be used directly with AA.

I booked a domestic one-way in First on NYE. Unfortunately, the only option that was just over $600 had a ~3 hour layover.

After reviewing the cancelation and rebooking terms, it appears that this won’t result in an AA Trip Credit as I was told by the Chase Travel rep when I called during the free cancelation window.

At best, if the credit could be used with AA directly, it’s a Flight Credit and not a Trip Credit. This is an important distinction, as the former comes with a lot more restrictions.

Here are just some of the restrictions shown on Chase Travel when I initiated the cancelation process:

Since I booked something I’d probably use anyway, I’m going to keep and use what I have.

$504 is a decent one-way fare in First, and I’ll try to shorten the layover with a same-day flight change in the AA app the day before/day of departure.

Going to Cartagena for a bday party and forgot to buy a return flight. It’s about the same price to fly to Aruba then home 4 days later so decided to extend the vacation a bit.

Any Restaurant and hotel recommendations in Aruba?

Yeah I was looking at that Airbnb. My son loves kids clubs and so do we bc we can dump him for a few hours haha. So debating on hotel vs airbnb

Aruba is nice, twice a year we go, theres a few good places on strip, much entertaining in evening,

Patrizia of new york
Giannis restaurant
Amore mio
Smokey joes
Pelican pier

Just do your research about choosing a hotel, most of them are doing major construction. St regis just got finished up,

I hear the sites are shocking.

Aruba you have to stay at the High Rise Hotels zone… my recommendation is Playa Linda is a Timeshare resort but you can get 4 nights easily.

https://forum.playalinda.com/viewforum.php?f=17
look for your week and then someone selling 4 days … or even rent the whole week in a 1 bedroom should be around 1.2k, so buy the week and then just leave …or extend it a little bit more lol.
In any case definitely go for an hotel … completely different experience if you stay at airbnb… even more if you stay for 4 days

I have a contact there in sales who also can reserve you 4 nights ,PM if interested.

Now for the speed boat tours, I am from Venezuela and although i don’t recommend it now, that country will be a true destination whenever this guys fell … Los Roques on me, whenever this guys fell..

Venezuela is beautiful I’d love to go at some point in my life. Hopefully things get better

I actually rented an amazing airbnb in the divi gold resort. 2br 1800 sq ft with roof deck and jacuzzi, can use all amenities if the resorts too. $1300 for 4 nights

Has a kids club and waterslides which keep the son occupied for hours. Only negative no real ocean view you can see it slightly though.

Curious if anyone has done analysis on buying a resale timeshare for $1, and whether it might actually be worth it if you just pay maintenance fees.

There’s a reason they’re on sale for $1.
