After a few leased cars, looking for something to finance

The Tribeca wasn’t large enough and didn’t have a genuine third row. It’s like looking at a 3rd-row equipped last gen RAV4 and wondering, 'Gee I wonder if any Camry owners would trade up to a Highlander?"

Not so sure about that? I’ve seen it in person and not many 3 row mainstream vehicles are stylish but this will be one of the least stylish. Interior is nice though.

It’s a Subaru. Utilitarian “style” is exactly what the customers want. Form not over function, nothing too ostentatious, etc etc

X USB ports, Y cupholders, turbo 4 instead of H6 for MPG, ditto CVT instead of tq converter, stain-repellent cloth upholstery, no charge upgrade to captains chairs for Prem and higher trims, etc etc…they focus-grouped the sh!t out of this before they built it.

And they’ll make a fortune selling them just as quick as they can make them.

They all focus group as well as all the other stuff you mention. You’re absolutely right subarus have that utilitarian style against most of their competitors but in this case it’s more mom mobile than all of the other mom mobiles. Will likely sell at first and then flop, just like the Tribeca.

Some more than others. VW didn’t have USB ports for the longest time. Honda tried removing a physical volume knob for the stereo before quickly backtracking. Toyota tried their own forever before succumbing to the inevitable and starting to adopt CarPlay/Android Auto.

NTM the big three phoning in their cars for years or even decades.
