90 SUV's - when is enough, enough

I think most of the smalller cuv will be fine, your suburban might be hurting when gas climbs over $4 a gallon

This is kind of a silly article. It’s apparent people want these things, at the moment, and the ones that don’t ultimately sell well, will die off, just like the sedans that don’t sell. Once gas bounces back up, people will flock back to fuel efficient sedans. Once it drops, back to SUVs…cyclical.

SUV is the new minivan

Not strictly cyclical. Luckily, thanks to the last time people made the dump on gas-guzzlers we saw a slew of improvements to both engine and transmissions (like the V6 F-150). The argument could be the technology is just getting better, but I think that’s only part of the answer - people (or maybe governments?) are demanding efficiency. The last time we saw such a large spike in efficiency is when Asians flooded the American market.
