Cash for keys?

What if the car will be shipped?

I have heard people on this forum were having issues with escrow.com. When I did my transfer in CA, I did cash for keys.

I usually do cash for keys at the end. You could also do an escrow service.

I take half after credit is approved before signing stage 2 and the other half after stage 3 is completed before handing the car over

I just collect before I sign my docs, they don’t get car until DAS is paid and my docs are signed

Maybe one day CA will go to electronic title, until then we learn patience lol

Are you trying to reclaim the funds already allocated to the Somalian fraudsters? Come on, this is still California.

No difference whatsoever in or out of state. The wait time is for CA DMV to process the next batch. They don’t do processing in real time.

On advice from @mani_is_kool, I demanded full payment before I signed stage 2 (BMW) for 2 recent transfers. I prefer this approach because once you sign stage 2 the train has left the station and you’re no longer in control of whether the car does or doesn’t remain yours. True I could hold the car hostage if I don’t get payment, but once the lease is in their name I assume BMW could rightfully compel me to hand over the keys. Rather not find out.

Yup I stand by it ! Lol i never move forward until the buyer understand that no matter what, I aint signing stage 2 till i have complete payment. Never had any issues. Usually for these cars, the buyers understand that a guy selling a $100k+ car isnt looking to scam someone for $5 to $6k.
By the time we have both chatted over from initial contact till stage 2, i have pretty much made new friends lol so yeah isnt that hard.

What about the other way? I’ve taken over leases before and had to pay upfront both times, which worked out fine. But just recently I took over another lease and the guy was supposed to pay me $1,500 as an incentive. He did pay but I needed to ask a few times. That was after everything was signed so I guess that could’ve been a problem.

What (and when) do most of you guys do if you’re taking over a lease and are promised an incentive?

Thanks.

Oh i have never taken over a lease lol. If ur a lease hackr member, why would u ever take on a lease ? well unless ur helping a friend or fellow member.
Or its an insane XM deal like the one just shared in private transfers by @Justlooking !

Hmmm that’s alot dicier and fraught for the seller… Like Mani said the chances of the guy with the 100k car running the scam is slim, but what about the guy pretending to be ready to sign just to collect your incentive? Yeah I don’t think that works the other way! Curious how others have handled it. I’ve never taken over a transfer.

Hahaha. Gotcha. Just wanted to try out an electric car but not marry it (2024 BMW i4 w/10k miles and 1.5k miles/month). Just 12 months and will probably add on 2 month extension. With the $1500 it dropped the monthly below $500 (pre-tax) so that was fine.

I would definitely prefer being the one who pays upfront because I trust myself implicitly..

I am fairly certain that BMW FS has zero desire to get in the middle of a private transaction. If the buyer decides to play games, just thank them for providing a free insured vehicle. Don’t forget to inform them that you are activating EA before your road trip while at it.
