2028 (!) Scout Motors revival

I had no idea this was happening:

So it’s Rivian?

Yeah VAG owns the Scout Brand and they’ve been trying to go this niche EV route for a while. Their assembly plant is in Blythewood, South Carolina.

A colleague of mine from when I was in Detroit was hired in 3 years ago to lead the Design team and he’s been super-stoked.

$100 deposit!

There’s a decent number of Rivians running around where I live. I think the Scout models look better inside and out.

Hmmm…

Still, how much will they look like this in final release?

The SUV has a kind of retro look that I like, interior seems nice, but what will make it to the production models?

To that point, this is so far out that I hope those range numbers see some improvement. Won’t solid state batteries allegedly be in a bunch of cars by 2027?

Sure, but Rivian will probably look better in 2028, too.

Count me as doubtful a USA based Volkswagen funded mall crawler project with sales four years out makes it to sales.

I’m in for $100.

edit: did the suv, no range extender

If the US release of the Buzz is any indicator, might be looking at 2030 release.

Yeah, it also sucks VAG is shutting down one of their EU EV plants. So they’re taking investment down in a spot that can be used to export to many territories while continuing to invest in a N.A. EV manufacturing capacity to serve a customer base of cheap-ass LH lessees.

I remember seeing something on this a long time ago, but it sort of disappeared until I saw it again just this week.

The suv looks quite nice IMO, especially the interior.

Looks like you’re in for $100 as well haha

Damn you guys lol. Question is full electric or not

I imagine a lot, actually, since the “concept” was billed a production-ready design and doesn’t have any wild concept car flourishes either on the inside or outside. It has side-indicator lights, realistic wheel sizes, side mirrors, etc. And the interior has… buttons. I think exterior designs normally get frozen a few yrs before production begins.

AFAIK, solid state will only be in the Daytona in 2027. Nothing else definitive has been announced, I think (incl by Toyota, who keeps pushing back their solid-state debut).

I love the way this thing looks, but I didn’t realize how gigantic it is. It won’t fit in my condo garage. Still, for only $100 refundable deposit, I’m so tempted…

You can change your vehicle and configuration at any time.

Really…we still doing the deposit thing on vaporware vehicles. Quit giving these corporations your money.

NADA already trying to kill the Scout dream and the entire reason VAG tried this experiment to begin with.

Even if they ship 1 ID.Buzz in 2024, they teased the return of the microbus for years until they confirmed it …. in 2008.

Still waiting for the return of the Scirocco and US into of the Polo that VW confirmed twice…

Still Waiting Office Tv GIF by The Office

Was the Scirocco ever confirmed? I thought they had always send it wasn’t coming b/c of the overlap w/ the GTI (and I actually agree w/ this).

I had no idea a design team could get paid to be this lazy.
