2027 BMW Lineup

Was just talking to my daughter about how cool it would be to get a convertible M440i. Hope it doesn’t die before I get the chance!

Mercedes would have a monopoly on German coupes/convertibles if that were the case.

Wait till you see one in person.

Looks quite sharp.

I think few people truly realize how much time and money companies like BMW AG spend worldwide on market research, focus groups and product development regarding what they will keep, ditch and roll out.

LHer is a very small group of people that are extremely knowledgeable and savvy when it comes to cars, but the majority of people out there are completely clueless and will buy what they are told no matter what it looks like. While LHer has what appears to be a big group of wagon peeps, if you extrapolated that out to the world you would think wagons would be every other ride out there. Again this is not even close to correct because wagons are niche and the market research shows that a giant SUV will do better all day long in the US.

4GC likely went that way as well based on market preferences, sedans being less popular and actual unit sales.

True and I’ve done a bunch of those surveys, panels, etc over the years. Like everywhere else, some participants came because they were truly interested in the subject and some were clueless and basically just came for the money.

What I meant to say there just based on the size alone, there is a big gap between the current 5 series and the new 3. Especially for someone coming out of the last generation 5 they might see the new 5 as too big while the 3 is obviously a downgrade in looks, size, features, etc.

Yeah, I knew you understood what I was saying and I wasn’t referring to you.

The size thing is baffling with BMW. My dad had an E34 M5, and I think the F30 328i we had was pretty much the same size as that M5. The current 5s seem to be the same size as the old-school 7s.

I think it looks… fine. There have been so many spy shots, etc., that it’s not at all surprising.

The press shots don’t show the same weird “top” spoke in the steering wheel, so one hopes that BMW got rid of that.

The design is one thing but I guess underneath the ICE model it’s just a G series? Also not sure if I’m a fan of the camel casing M350; seems to emphasize M3 even though it’s not.

I think BMW’s design language has really moved towards the influencer generation and the brand I grew up and loved is long gone.

I think I had read somewhere that this is indeed the case.

Yep, they put on a neue klasse dress to the G20 chassis, which isn’t the worst thing in the world considering how good is that clar platform to drive. Plus it also means that the 6MT might live on with the next gen M3…

BMW’s design peak at e46 and going downhill from there

Exterior isn’t the problem, it’s the hideous interior. Steering wheel is weird, dash is weird ( like prior gen Honda civics) and the glued on iPad look sucks

It’s not an iPad since it’s a trapezoidal design in effort to highlight the car’s dynamic nature.

I think interior quality peaked around that time, too. :frowning:
