Yes I’m in CA. Been doing deals for a while and afaik rebates have always been taxed. Appears to just be a quirk on these Benz deals. Even the SIGNED contracts don’t show the rebates as cash at signing like they typically do on other brands.

Someone may know the exact answer, but I am guessing the conquest cash, being a coupon that dealers have limited amounts of, is treated like cap cost reduction, as with the lease cash, so there is no applicable taxable rebate in this case.

I’d just tell dealer what you want to pay due at signing and monthly and let them manipulate the numbers as they want.

Addendum to the deal. I didn’t mention that we were surprised with a big scratch on the right front bumper on the morning of delivery that we only noticed after we signed the lease. This was not there when we test drove it. The salesman said they would take care of it and we thought that was it.

When the car was added to our Mercedes profile it showed a collision detection warning on the morning of delivery before we signed the lease docs. Like wtf?!

And then, before we put 100 miles on the car, we found the side back window shattered when it was parked at our house. This was clearly caused by some small crack that had come with the car and expanded once it was being driven.

Now the dealer is still going to fix the bumper but are refusing to fix the window. Do I have any recourse?

It is very challenging for a dealer to take liability (and then pass it to their insurer) once an issue is identified out of their custody. If the window issue wasn’t like that when it rolled off their floor you’re SOL unless the dealer wants to do you a favor.

Figure out the costs for this repair and be sure to add it to your effective payment

Dealer most likely isn’t going to do anything about the window.

Are there impacts marks anywhere? Any possibility someone was cutting grass, street sweeper, kids playing with a BB gun? lol Why is it clear that the window shattered from a preexisting crack, rather than an external force?

The app shows exactly when the incident took place. It is highly unlikely that a window cracking (on its own) would trigger the collision detection. Also, I know some of the MB models capture photos during the detection… do you have any?

Collision detected on left side but scratch on right front bumper? Not sure if the whole story aligns

What I’m suggesting is that whatever happened to the car before I got it (some side impact or whatever caused the front bumper scratch) torqued the car in such a way that the window got damaged imperceptibly. It was enough to trigger a warning from the car. Side windows just don’t spontaneously shatter. SMDH

You’re saying that impact (that you have proof of) happened before you took possession of the car? If that’s the case I’d be pushing harder on the dealer.

Yes the timestamp in the app was from the morning that I picked up the car. And it showed up with that bumper ding so something happened to it right before I got it.

I would push that with the dealer. There almost has to be surveillance or something on it. Granted they probably won’t be real eager to incriminate themselves lol

Try to speak to the GM of the store. Go in person if its not too far. You have the evidence from the MB app and the car was already damaged elsewhere. Clearly something happened on their end. The next step would be to take it to Mercedes or make a demand letter if they still refuse imo.

MB won’t do shit. I am in same boat with my S580 and they said it is a “sales dispute” so have to take it up with the dealer. BMWUSA actually steps in to help, done many times

OP,

If dealer doesn’t play ball, just dispute your DAS on your credit card.

I set off that collision detection on my EQS all the time. Clearing snow of the car sets it off. Cleaning the car with a brush will set if off. I seriously doubt a “slight impact” event will torque the car. The glass repair is a comp insurance claim, so why even sweat it?

This - the collision detection is very sensitive- this wasn’t an accident- it was a slight bumper tap -

if it was a big impact - it would not say slight impact

What happened?

I would also get alerts all the time for my EQS. Got alert fatigue after a while and Ignored it.

What happened to your MB?

Which dealer is that? Encino?

Edit: NVM, figured it out, it’s in two photos, lol.
