I was chasing a 2024 Omega suv since Aug ‘25 calling dealers all over the country being persistent looking for $90K sell price (pre-incentives) with buyrate and no dealer-adds. I didnt need the vehicle as i have a hummer and lyriq already…my lyriq lease expires in 11 months so i figured if i can get another vehicle now i wont have to look later on and will find someone to take over remaining payment. I got a 2024 2X hummer suv few months ago which i did as a 2 year conventional lease. After no luck in August, I found a dealer in early Sept out of state who agreed to it and sent me the worksheet. I had $2000 lease incentive, $3000 CTP, $2000 supplier and $1250 costco. They first showed $385/month due to a 100 basis point markup on MF, and then after telling them to change to buy-rate they came back wih $215/month on a 36/10k. After agreeing, they said they would call me next business day after verifying the taxes calling the local DMV and ensuring no hidden pop-ups for me later on. I never heard back from them to this day. They ghosted me, most likely because they changed their mind over the weekend or something.
Hence my search continued. One of the dealers in TX I called in August - i started being more persistent with them in September. I called and spoke to the sales mgr couple times and explained how i came up with the $90K sell price using various data points. He listened and didnt say much. After that i called probably 10 -15 times leaving him a vm because he knew if i didnt ink a deal in Sept, I would never be getting it since there was no lease support from Oct 1. On september 29, i saw the dealers name on my phone caller ID…when i saw it i screamed in excitement because i knew what it must have been for. The owner called me, asked how i came up with the $90K and after listening said he would do $92K and include delivering to me. I immediately took it and didnt flinch. Credit app filled, approved and then that evening I told them i wanted to do 24/10K conventional. The next day he sent me paperwork overnighted and i signed and sent back. After that night i went back and looked at the numbers on onepay and looked at the 36 month. I changed my mind and decided makes no sense to keep car for 2 years and give back, only to know the 3 year onepay was the best and lowest cost of ownership. Plus, no way would i be able to get an SUV of this caliber for anything close to this effective payment. When I told him that, he said structure cant be changed and it was too late and he verified with GMF etc. After 1 week of talking to GMF and escalating to a Regional Mgr internally, it got done. Mainly because contract had not been funded and i hadnt taken delivery of vehicle. They had to send the paperwork 2 times due to talking to GMC to get it fundable but the manager was super nice and friendly guy. Below was the final numbers:
One-pay - $26,189.80 and a check back from dealer to me for $22,000.00. Effective one-pay of $4,189.80 yielding a $116.38 monthly payment.
Rebates/incentives: Supplier $2000, CTP $3000, Lease incentive $2000, Costco $1250
After 3 weeks they finally got it delivered this past Friday as we practically waited a whole week trying to get a shipping company to pickup from the dealer.
It was a surprise for my wife and she was in shock.
Seriously, if I was a dealer I won’t put up with that. If the dealer is willing to go that low I am sure they won’t have any issue selling the car at that low payment to a local customer.
If it were me, absolutely not. Dealer agreed on 9/29 and then OP changed his mind a day or two later after they sent the paperwork to be signed overnight. One of the selling points of being the recipient of a LH worthy deal should be the sale will be quick, easy, and as painless as possible for the dealer. This is something OP should have figured out before making the offer, or at least not after it was signed on the last day of the month. Nothing against you OP, congrats on the deal, just my opinion on the survey. I would have just accepted no for an answer and not elevated it.
In my mind if you agree to a deal the deal is done. Even if you have not signed yet. Maybe I’m a sucker but I’ve turned down a better deal simply because I had already said I would sign on another.
I’m similar. It’s good karma. Once I come to an agreement with a dealer I cease all communication elsewhere. It’s over, they’ve given me what I want and I have no reason to do them wrong.
When a dealer goes that deep, I’m personally concerned they’ll just tell me to F off if I make anything complicated. Not hard to replace me at those numbers. My goal once I’m at my target is showing them I’m the easiest customer they’ll ever have.
Guys, i agree with the comments above but i should have been more descriptive. No i was not an a$$ with them nor was i demanding they do this or that when i wanted to change the structure to 36 month onepay. I had been cordial and professional the entire time. Yes, it was my error for not working the math prior and i told them to see what they could do help me. When i told the Mgr and why doing 3 year makes sense, he said he completely understood and reviewed the calculations with me…he agreed and said himself he would have done the same thing for himself. He said he had tried calling GMF and they said they would not do it. When i explained how it should be possible he agreed and said this situation hadnt come up so got his regional mgmt involved. After discussing with him, they got it taken care of with GMF because the deal wasnt funded. The mgr himself said the owner wanted this vehicle gone and whatever we needed to do to make the deal happen and move the unit. His words were “this thing is a financial burden on the dealership. We are family owned and we knew you were ready to pull the trigger and you were local in texas” He asked for a 10/10 and i said id give him 12/10. He actually apologized to me for 2 reasons…1. taking so long to get a carrier to pick the vehicle up. They initially paid $650 and then on day 7 another $125 for a carrier to pick up. I told him i was ok waiting and waiting another day or two wasnt going to kill anything. 2. paperwork calculation errors for using a trade (when i didnt have one) to help him. Thats why he had to send me paperwork 2 times to sign. I didnt understand the trade usage but he said it would help me.
I actually was going to send giftbaskets or something like that Friday when it arrived, but had funeral this weekend so it’s going out today. Super super happy with this deal. Yes i worked my tailbone off and probably the hardest deal ive done in 25 years.
The warranty expires October of 2027 based on when it went into the CTP program…the mgr explained that i would essentially have it out of manufacturers warranty months 25-36. However he said battery should be good regardless (i think it’s 100k miles warranty?) but if i wanted to purchase extended coverage through 3rd party places, that might be a good idea to consider in a couple years.
