2023 VW Arteon Lease

But my lease ends in October.

Also, the Kingfisher Blue is at $46k (which for my tax makes it over $50k) - but they aren’t motivated to go down quite yet. If I moved on one, I’d go for the Moonstone Gray - a black car in CA is…not that great.

They’ll actually do $46k without forcing garbage aftermarkets? I think that was the contention from the trusted hackr… that this dealership is shady and adds fees later.

Anyway if it’s October 2024 and you find any 2023 Arteons still on a lot, you know you’ll get it super cheap.

A $2k net pricing decrease each month until the end of this year is totally possible with the car being discontinued, and the dealerships will eventually need to clear the floor.

Surprised me too, but over the phone they can promise you anything I would think - just to get me to drive 3 hours away ha.

I take a close look at the production date, my logic is if production is 10/2023 (when they ended production) then the car has probably only been there for 3-4 months, still a long time of course).

My dealings with a few VW dealers in the northeast has made me realize that most of them were not desperate enough to sell the Arteon at a big discount earlier in the year, when VW started offering $2k in dealer cash.

I understand that as time goes on, some dealers will increase the dealer discount but come October, any 2023 Arteons will be nearly 2 years old.

Not sure how big of a discount will be needed for @Vannarith to snag one up.

Yeah that Kingfisher one (that is unfortunately 3 hours away) is one of the last built units. It’s technically only 60 some odd days on the floor. You seem to know how to look up this stuff, which is cool.

You’ll want something in writing (emailed desking sheet at a minimum) in the form of a firm offer and something tangible before you drive out there. And of course, most dealers can give you paperwork to sign well in advance of you driving a significant distance. Or they’ll just ship the car to your doorstep on a transporter. Although then you won’t get to test drive the car.

When October rolls around, target those ~200 day old units if there are any left. The ones that are over 365 days will have quite a bit of lot rot, and won’t be attractive vehicles to buy/finance even if they are cheap.

Have you driven a 22 and up Arteon? If you like your 21, you’ll love the 22. It’s a much better vehicle with the Golf R engine and transmission.

Yeah, and I kind of suspect that, if one waits TOO long, the dealers might just prefer to send it to auction rather than blowing them out. JMHO.

The contention was that is typical of dealers in that area and one should watch out for it as it is common practice. I haven’t dealt with that specific dealer, but have with many others in that vicinity and that’s the status quo.

Curious, where would a dealer send a brand new car for auction?

Then all in brutal honesty get a real German sport sedan. RWD architecture with a longitudinal I6 like a 540i or E450.

For $45k, I doubt they will be getting a new 540i. Used car prices are still high, and so are interest rates. Who knows what things would like, when Vannarith is ready to purchase/lease in October.

@Vannarith - It is never early to start researching cars and pricing. That’s what I did late last year when I was debating financing a new 2023 Arteon SEL Premium R-Line. After reaching out to VW dealers and looking at financing options, I ended up moving away from the Arteon.

No idea (but I imagine you could Google it).

I recall posters (can’t recall the specific ones, but they seemed knowledgable) mentioning that sometimes (and perhaps frequently?), dealers would rather just sell the car at auction instead of offering a ridiculously low price.

Yeah @Vannarith , @Bluemkn57cars is one of the few users on LH that spent a lot of time researching this vehicle. If you’re not 100% fixated on the Arteon, then you have a lot of time between now and October to research your next vehicle. It takes time to find the right balance between what you want out of the car and what it cost in your budget.

The primary thing you have going for you is by the time you’re looking at the Arteon, you’ll be like the only person left that was targeting that car. Since the vehicle is discontinued and seems often overlooked in the segment. The only thing they’ll be able to sell at that time is a low price, so you may see a significantly lower net price to finance a leftover unit than what he saw when he was shopping for his 2023 model year.

@max_g - all good, tbh, the only BMW I’ve liked are the 2000/01 5 Series.

@holeydonut - Agreed, I think my sweet spot is probably the end of summer - in October there probably won’t be an SEL-P left in California, then I’ll end up in a Honda (ugh).

Too bad an RS6 Avant is ridiculous in price.

@Bluemkn57cars - The amazing thing is that everything I’ve priced out so far, dealers only offer $24-25k on the 2021, except my dealer who offered $29k but don’t have an SEL-P.

@paranoidgarliclover - I’ve actually had in general really good experiences with my dealer (I’ve done 6 VWs with them over the years) even though there’s another dealer much closer. The Arteon definitely ticks most of the boxes, except the 8" screen. Of course, the engine/transmission change annoys me as it happened about a month after I leased. In my mind, it’s a balance of size, features, German, and certainly uniqueness.

That small and dated screen was a big turn off for me. For a $50k car, it also did not have HUD (although, not a big deal).
