That’s my biggest issue lately in real estate as a landlord. Very few people can come up with the security deposit AND the rent

SF and SJ rentals usually require first + last month rent, deposit, and application fee.

It’s expensive to be poor.

SJ is 1.5 security deposit and 1 month rent plus app fees. Even security 8 pays 2200 for a two bedroom which means that the person needs to bring $5500 total.

Whoa - I didn’t realize San Francisco passed AB 12 which starting 2024 limited the amount of security deposit and up fronts to a single month rent. And the deposit has to earn 5% interest.

All the landlords with their swank houses up in Marin and Tahoe now cannot afford eggs since this rent control and deposit control cuts into their profits.
