Friend of mine is looking to get out of his 19 Malibu and wants to lease a Cherokee or Grand Cherokee. He currently owes 19500 on his Malibu and the dealer trade offer is 13500, they said with 9k down (6k negative equity and then 3k towards lease) he would be at $358 per month. 3 yr 36 k lease, thoughts?

Need more details like MSRP, sale price, MF, RV, term (etc). $3K DAS and $358 per month for a JGC Limited sounds pretty decent but not spectacular. You should check out some of the brokers who advertise in the marketplace section.
The whole $6K inequity piece… Not gonna judge as I am guilty of burying inequity in short term leases myself. However, have you tried Vroom & Carvana? Do you know the wholesale value? Unless it’s a base model, trade offer seems a bit low.
