I have been “leasehacking” for many years but I am thrilled to post my first hack to this site. I think I could have squeezed an extra $20/month out of the payment but felt like this was a solid deal and I always think there is more room.
Year, Make, Model, and Trim:
2019 Volvo XC90
T-5
White/Blonde
**MSRP: $51,885
**Selling Price: $46,361.01
**Monthly Payment: $493.42 (excluding tax) (first month free)
**Cash Due at Signing: $0
**MSD:$5,500 (rounded up from payment including taxes)
**Incentives: A-Plan was $750 off.
The above was tax, tag, title, registration, all fees, and first month’s payment included. My only out of pocket was the $5,500 of MSD.
**Region: Southeast
**Leasehackr Score: I couldn’t get calculator to work. Can someone help me with this? I am so curious to know.
Further background on the deal, I had a 2017 GX460 with 14 months remaining. After reading this site, I saw people mention that Vroom is interesting so I had them bid it. They offered me $800 more than my buyout so I took that deal and pocketed the money. I had worn tires and was missing a key! Also got to avoid the $450 fee from lexus at turn in. I was extremely skeptical this would work but i am happy to report Lexus received their payment and I just received by MSDs back from Lexus. Amazing.
The majority of the discount was from negotiating. The A-plan discount was only $750. I used that after I struck the deal. I should probably have noted that. I have updated my post. Thanks!
So, there was A-plan sales price (6% off) + $750 a-plan cash + $1,000 Lease bonus? Then selling price should be $47,021? There is some $600 more is discount somehow.
I didn’t get in the weeds with the dealer on what credits he was applying. Is there a way to decipher that on my lease agreement? All I see under rebates and noncash credits is $750. The $46,361.01 I mentioned above is referenced in the Gross capitalized Cost section. but then the line item shows 47,356.01. Not sure which one I should have used above. Then they subtract the 750 and arrive at 46,606.01 and show a residual value of 38,394.90 below that.
You got a good deal, that’s all that matters
I’m just curious since the sales price with the a-plan cannot be below ~6% off (~$48,771). Then there is 1k Volvo lease allowance - $47,771 (or $47,356.01). Then $750 a-plan - $47,021 (or your $46,361.01).
I must be missing something or maybe 2019s invoice is 7-7.5% off due to tariffs
edit: $47,356.01 includes marked up acquisition fee of $995.
74% residual for a Volvo, even on 24 months, is fantastic. When I leased a 2018 a few months ago, the 36 month residual was in the mid to upper 50’s. On a lower price XC90, the a-plan accounts for about 7.5%, and the lease bonus is another nearly 2%. So starting out w/ 10% off, and then needing to bridge just 16% over 24 months is a great recipe for a Volvo lease. Especially on an XC90, which historically haven’t leased well.
That is bad. how come such small effect of MSDs ? Is this typical for Volvo ?
With Penfed offering 2.5% on a new car and 1% rate using their buying service, it might be better to buy, finance with them and sell. I know, uncertainty of whether I can sell at such RV.
Over 1% is not small. 0.00005 x 10 = 0.0005 (1.2%). When you have 1.5% and end up with 0.3% it sure looks better. It is never better to finance a Volvo.
I think the dealer f’d up real bad and stacked their own discount with the A-Plan incentive of $750 that they won’t get. They probably don’t even know about the commission they lost, either.
Nice find @ursus and nice deal for OP!
Put up pics in trophy garage …
3 months ago the local Volvo dealer was asking me for $500 with 3.5k down for 39/7.5k
Will do. Regarding color combo, I am definitely not offended but very surprised to hear white/blonde is not desirable. I was under the impression that is typically the most desirable for SUVs especially soccer moms driving volvos.
Also, this is nieve to believe, but the dealer was not happy with this deal at all. We had started down the path of a 36 mo 2018 T6 AWD which had all same terms as above but came in around 565 pre tax…
