The online “E-Price” for this car is 3000 lower than the price they will use for a lease. Is this normal?
Some incentives only apply to a purchase. This is probably the case here
Yeah but what’s the payment difference, you’re not comparing a price with leasing, it’s all about the payment.
Thanks @joeblogs.
Seems like the lease may be a lower cost over 3 years depending on the trade in value of the purchased car. I estimated trade value as lower than residual. If I used the RV, the purchase is a better deal. What did I miss?
Lease:
MSRP: 33035
Price: 29999
RV 52% (17178.2)
MF: .00001
Lease: 418 (392 + 26 tax)
DAS: 670
Total spent: 15718 (36*418+670)
Purchase: 29630 (0 down, all taxes and fees included)
Monthly payment @1.99% for 5 years: 519
In three years, 36 payments total: 18684
Car value: 15000 [17178]
Remaining balance owed: (12207)
Net trade: 2791 [4971]
Total spent: 18684-2791 [4921]=15893 [13713]
15983-13713=2180
The discount you’re getting is miniscule on a Passat. You can get thousands more off without much work.
@BoardWalkNJ Do you mean for the purchase or the lease or both?
To get lower, I should contact more dealers?
Apparently the SEL model I seek is in shorter supply here. Or at least that’s how it seems based on local inventories.
$33K for a Passat? Is that a V6 SEL? You should easily be able to get $5K off MSRP (atleast). My $27K RLine was discounted over $5K.
Also, why 1.99%? Seems VW is always offering 0.9 or zero interest. Have you tried a local credit union? Should be able to beat that.
btw, I have a 2016 R-Line and love it. Keep in mind a redesigned Passat is coming next year (as a 2020 model)
The 1.99 is a credit union. It’s the SEL 4 cylinder Premium, only one on their lot.
I’m being told by one dealer that I can have one of the following:
A. $6k discount on a purchase (27000) with my own financing
B. List with 0% financing
C. 3k discount on lease
They do not want to combine the low price with the financing/lease.
@Bhihifi You really need to do some research and car shopping. Have you gone to Edmunds and gotten the residual and MF for each trim? Find out what the lease incentives are?
There was someone here who recently posted that they leased a SE 4 cylinder for like low $200 with nothing DAS. I believe that was over Memorial Day weekend and that deal is gone. Crazy you’re looking to pay well over $400 a month for a loaded 4 cylinder Passat. Its expensive, if you ask me.
Alas @joeblogs, his deals are California residents only. Not seeing the love here in FL.
@TheBigTuna Good advice. I will do that. I have been told by one sales manager that he has lower lease incentives compared to purchase on the Passat as they are trying to clear inventory and don’t want this car back as a used car when they come out with a redesign in 2020. Only the SEL has leather seating. $400+ seems high to me too.
I know that, it’s a good baseline though, and you never said where you were. Get partner program discount for a little better deal. How many dealers have you got quotes from?
3 so far. All singing the same “we can’t discount the extra 3k if leasing instead of purchasing.” song.
Inventory in FL for the SEL is low. Leather is a must so lower trim levels are not an option.
You can’t combine the $3k with the lease, purchase and lease incentives are just different. You really have your heart set on the passat? It’s kind of big unless you need that space. Might consider a Jetta or even the new Jetta, I imagine the 2019 SE will be a pretty good deal once they clear out the 2018’s, it’s residual is a point higher than the S or SEL and R-line.
If you’re only intending to keep the car three years, do the lease. With a new Passat coming out sometime soon there’s no guarantee on that residual, plus if you get in an accident the value might change. An accident won’t change anything on a lease. Plus with the lease the payment is less. An SEL will lose more value than an S model.
@Joeblogs Thanks for all the info.
I sat in the new Jetta and was not wild about the driver’s seat. The Passat seat seems more comfortable and supportive.
Size is actually a consideration because I want to be able to transport friends and having more back seat space helps.
Also considering the Audi A4, FWIW. The Passat offers more safety features and comparable comfort. However, I would not argue that the driving experience is markedly different.
Yeah the Passat definitely has allot of space but the Jetta is by no means small, it’s the same size as the 2 generations ago Passat and only 3 inches shorter than the A4. The A4 will lease no where near the Passat, you might look at a 3 series loaner, you find the right one it’ll be less than this Passat.
I’d wait for 2019 passat.
Anyway if you compare 2018 passat with its competitors like carmy/accord, this isn’t much advantages lol.
My bad forgot this post has nothing to do with carmy/accord.
Yeah like everyone mentioned before me, u can get huge discount than current one.
@MarkWalBerg I have owned an Accord and a Toyota. I need to broaden horizons.
