Not a crazy amazing deal but I feel pretty comfortable with it. Got 9.6% off MSRP at Valencia BMW in SoCal. They kept the federal rebate but I get the state rebate and were some good rebates on top of that. I prepaid $550 for the maintenance package which is a good deal. They originally wanted $800 for that. I believe the fluid flush alone is $600.
Doesn’t BMW still include maintenance for free?
They still include oil changes I think but not the fluid flush, wipers, brakes and clutch. It’s definitely no longer full maintenance.
Nobody is going through brakes in 36 months. That was a scam job up sell. See if you cancel cancel and refund the maintenance charges
Looks good to me. Why the plug-in though? It’s the worst of both worlds: paying for gas and kWh
Maybe HOV sticker is worth it though…
Yeah, it was a tough call for me. I was really torn and had a tough time deciding on whether to get this. I probably wouldn’t in retrospect.
You may be able to cancel it. @Samson, can you provide OP guidance on this maintenance plan cancellation?

The plugin 530e has the same base MSRP as the 530i but gets better gas mileage and the state rebate. And you’re right, it allows me to use the carpool lane by myself, at least for the rest of the year. I have a pretty tough commute but HOV lanes pretty much the entire way.
I was thinking of getting the i3 Rex for a long time but this is a lot easier to live with.

Plus the plug in (vs the 530) has a bigger overall incentive from bmw I think?
Probably would’ve been fine with standard maint, brakes do not push till 40K+ even if your lease was >40K miles its arguable if its worth it because the 4/50K plan is almost 2K, from what I understand.
Either way not an awful deal, standard MF and almost 10% off on 2018 isn’t bad.
OL coupon code!? I’m going to keep posting about the OL code until it becomes common knowledge haha.
I would have shot for 12-13% off before rebates but still a good deal.
When I was shopping for a 530e xdrive last December I was down to $479 with $479 DAS for a $58k one.

Any new events since st. Moritz is closed? Of course the OL codes from that are good through June.
One must pay to fill the tank with gas / stop at gas stations periodically. Also, one must pay their utility company for kWh used to charge the vehicle while plugged in.
Filling up less often and paying less than fuel cost per mile driven via electric charging. It’s the best of both, not the worst.
The charm of an EV as a commuter car is never having to stop for gas. Regeneration is negligible in all cases. 1 kWh will get you 4 miles of range. 1 gallon of gas will get you 20-some miles of range. Tax on gas, tax on electricity. Seems like a hassle to have to fill the tank and plug the car in overnight.
Like mentioned, HOV sticker and state cash refund are the only user benefits to this arrangement.
Including the cost of charging, I expect to save over $60-75 in operating costs per month. To me, that much savings is worth the hassle.
Brakes, clutch in 36 months? 5 series is automatic anyways. All the maintenance is free for 36k miles on all BMW’s. It will be oil changes basically.
On the plug-in hybrids, it was interesting to read from the NY auto show how these are getting positioned as “performance” vs. “environmentally aware” now. I drove the 530e recently and it was nice.
Free charging at work and a suitable range can eliminate the need to purchase fuel most of the time. [That was my experience when I leased a PHEV]
In SF Bay Area, there are a lot of free charging station. Most of the big companies have free charging. So let’s say my commute is 10 miles one way, I can charge at home, assuming it’s $0.16 per kWh, that’s $1.5 per charge. By the time when I’m off, the car will have full charge of 12 miles range. Then I do it every again, charge and home and etc. monthly cost for commute is $30 for electricity. And $0 gas. That’s if I only work and come back, and grocery shop, nothing long distance. Plus you get better parking spot at malls and plazas. Save me a lot of time and headaches. The best part of Any EV or plug-in is “silence”! Silence is golden for me. I got pretty sensitive ears lol can’t stand for any noise. And of course like you said the HOV sticker, but that’s not a big deal for me.
