Here are the current 2017 X3 35i’s with under 5,000 miles. When I was in the market, I was tracking these on a daily basis within 200 miles of my zip. You can use some of the better priced listings to help negotiate your pricing with your dealer on a demo/loaner.

I think there’s opportunity here because of the strong residuals this month but you’ll have to find a dealer willing to work with you on price. If the dealer has had the car listed for an extended period, he may be more willing drop his price.

Looks like it may just be a NE problem. Most of the “deals” around Philly are garbage.

West German BMW blew me off with 10% off on loaner cars as well. I’ve reached out
to Mainline, Devon and Otto, but they were just not willing to do 20% off. I am suspecting this is not applicable in PA or our dealers in PA are not hungry at all.

Yes, I was actively looking to replace my wife’s car this month with a BMW, but none of the BMW dealers in PA were willing to make a deal. Even with BMW corporate fleet discount, most of the deals in August are garbage.

paging @loberant. Hi @loberant can you get us those X3 loaners with 70% residual and 25% discount?

BMW of Freehold (NJ) offered a well equipped 28i to me last month as shown below. Almost 20% off as a first offer. This was a demo/loaner with less than 5,000 miles. Contact was Maria Shouldice (732 984 6006).

Was that a new model or service loaner?

Ah, I wish MSDs still existed with BMW.

Unless you find a loaner with under 500 miles on it (unlikely) you are not going to get those high residuals. If there are under 5,000 miles on the car the residual will be reduced by $0.25 a mile. If it is over 5,000 miles it is a 4% reduction plus $0.25 a mile.

What this typically means is that any car over 5,000 miles is a terrible lease deal. It can still be a good purchase if the price is right.

Here in Southern CA I see offers for loaners at about 13% off MSRP. Assuming you don’t negotiate on that, obviously you would, the lease terms on a car with 3,000 miles are roughly this on this particular loaner:

Car = http://www.pacificbmw.com/vehicle-details/used-2017-bmw-x3-sdrive28i-glendale-ca-id-18133973
MSRP = $45,245
Sale price = $39,245
MF = 0.00151
Residual = 62.34%
Monthly pre-tax = $436
Drive-off = $962 (estimated)

Each additional $1K off gets you $30 a month off the monthly. To get to 20% off you are looking at negotiating them down another $3,000 and then your payment is $346 a month pre-tax.

Is that a good deal? Well that car is not a total stripper. It has the premium package (moonroof, comfort access, sat radio), heated front seats, Xline trim, and backup cam/parking sensors. But no navigation, no fancy headlights, it is RWD not AWD and so on. At the offered price I’d probably pass and work on getting a new one. If you could get 20% off or could stack incentives to get there it starts to be a better deal. The calculator gives the 20% deal a score of 10.8 years.

You’re right. You’re not going to find a loaner with less than 500 miles so you will have a reduction of 25 cents per mile to the residual. However, there is an additional $1000 lease incentive on demos with under 5,000 miles (at least they had it in July when I was looking at X3’s).

The X3/X4 have the highest residuals for BMW right now. Another car I looked at on a whimsy was the Volvo XC90 Excellence which is being offered at a $32,000 discount off MSRP. Lease residuals on this car are around 33-35% (lowest I’ve ever seen).

Another Volvo home run :slight_smile:

Not sure how other brands work, but for MB, anything over 3K has a 20 cent per mile residual penalty. So for example with 5K miles if the residual is normally $40,000, it would be reduced by $400 (2000 miles X $0.20) and bring it down to $39,600.

I assume all of them have a version of this, but probably with different thresholds and per mile values.

Double check to make sure you’re doing the math right.

Yes, the max free miles for BMW loaners in 500 miles. A loaner with 4,500 miles would be assessed 25 cents per mile on 4000 miles…$1,000 drop in the residual.
