I just got a response from the VW dealer manager and I just wanted to get your input on this lease for a 2017 Golf R DSG/ DCC + navi

Manager response:
Ok… MSRP is 41,615. Selling price is 38,115. Residual is 67%. Money Factor is .00320. Dealer Fee is $799. Tag,title, filing, tire, battery fees are est @ $645. Aqusition fee is $625. Math = 0Dn $613/mo or $2000Dn $545/mo or $4000Dn $481 (got busy last night and been swamped early today). You now have every possible bit of info. on why the payment is what it is…let’s just get this finished up;)

That MF is nuts. These models just don’t lease well and are better suited for purchase.

$613/month for a $41k vehicle? 7.68% APR? :joy:

Thanks for your input @willwar14 @Jon , it sounds like they are trying to rip me off. I really like this car but financing is still going to put me somewhere around the $550 on a 5-6 year deal. I think im going to continue looking as willwar14 says, the car just doesnt lease well

Check out Jaguar XE. 340hp AWD, 5k down, 300 a month.

The selling price actually isn’t bad. I kicked around a Golf R for a bit in the Los Angeles area just over a year ago… very few dealers were willing to discount at all. Some were marking them up over MSRP!!

Most of what makes this a bad deal is lease program particulars. However… Audi S3 is largely the same vehicle, but with a nicer interior and leases quite a bit better (still not a bargain lease but far better than Golf R). They’re shooting for a much higher volume car so will also likely be willing to do a lot better on selling price (as a % of MSRP). Hope that helps. Cheers.

I would want a cheaper payment considering the 18s are on the way and it’s a facelift with LED headlights bigger nav screen and full digital dash.

you are better off buying the car and reselling it after 3 years. it would be cheaper. the APR kills the deal.

Can anyone explain the golf r hype?

In my opinion, the looks are subpar and the car is very small. It must handle like some kind of beast to have a massive cult following it.

Performance VWs especially the Golf have always had a cult following in the car afficiando world which has bled heavily into the normal car owners psyche. They are a media darling (excluding the diesel fiasco)

They arguably started the hot hatch genre (or at least crowned king of it very early on) and have consistently set the benchmark very high in terms of design, quality and performance and cost - that reputation hasn’t been let down over the year (perhaps with exception of the MKIII / MKIV days.)

Nowadays though - the value for money argument has dwindled (at least in Europe) when little and big brother brands like the cheaper SEAT, Skoda and he slightly more expensive Audi as they are essentially the same car at 85% - 105% of the price.

America has very little in the way of competition, so maintains high demand.

The R in particular is a beast though and not as small or impractical as say the STI Subaru sedan or focus RS which is the competing class of car.

More than you cared to know!!!

I just got a new quote from another dealer on a 2017 VW Golf R 6MT DCC + Navi

MSRP 40,515
Sale price: 37,515
acq. fee $625
Tier 1 MF .00220 RV 74% 10,000 miles 24 month lease
Tier 1 MF .00220 RV 73% 12,000 miles 24 month lease

586 a month 0 down
539 a month 1000 down
492 a month 2000 down

Deal or no deal?

terrible (Charles Barkley voice )

I actually think its a pretty good deal for what it is. You will not get much better then 3000 discount on an R and 74% residual is solid. I dont know what the MF is but imagine its not great given the payment, so perhaps some room there if dealer marked it up.

I just spent 2 months looking for an R and decided to get a used 2016 after all. If you are set on getting an R this is not a terrible deal…

@overon03 MF is .00220.

yeah, thats what i figured that is equivalent to 5.4% apr which is nonsense. The R might be a better purchase option because they hold their value so well. Some banks offer balloon based programs which makes it similar to lease deal. Check out penfed.com payment saver option

Yeah, i really like the car I am considering purchasing it. I could wait till the 2018 comes out and buy an used one 2017 for a good price. Do you mind if I ask how much you paid for your 2016?

i got it for 32 with 9000 miles, perfect condition. But it was a base version with no DCC or Nav

You got a nice deal IMO, I could plbly do the same, Im in no rush. Also heard of the 2018’s coming with a 8" screen and the digital cockpit. I am interested in the 6MT, I’ve read several pros of the DSG, however if I plan on keeping this car a while 10-15 yrs 6MT is the way to go, maintenance, and reliability, plus I’d like to drive this car manually, my personal choice.
