I live in NY, so the dealer won’t do MSDs. Apparently Lexus and Infiniti won’t let NY residents do MSDs, even if the dealership is in NJ. By comparison, BMW and Mercedes were more than willing to let me do MSDs.
I got offered $462 a month (including 8.875 tax) with $0 down, and 1st month waived. Amortizing the 1st month payment waiver over the full length of the lease, it is equivalent to $449 a month for 36 months.
@JDB jdb the first month waived is most likely a national program, has nothing to do with the dealer so I wouldn’t amortize it down to trick yourself into thinking it’s better than it is because the dealer isn’t doing you a favor.
I personally think there’s conservatively another $20/mo on the table. Did you also have him run the numbers on a 30 or 27 or 24 mo lease? Sometimes the numbers come out better.
Bummer with the MSDs, i’ve head that MSDs are not allowed in NY regardless of brand, it’s a state rule but i might be wrong if you say Mercedes would let you.
Thanks for the analysis. I will try to push for at $20 or more off the monthly price.
Also, NY state does not technically allow MSDs. However, Mercedes and BMW apparently take the position that if you buy from a NJ dealer, NJ dealers are not bound by NY laws, even if the car is then registered in NY.
I know I wish I could do MSDs. Even if I could find a way to register it in NJ, the issue then is I have to get NJ plates, and then people start asking why I have NJ plates, and I wonder if an insurance company might consider it insurance fraud? Whereas $40 a month is important, the possible downsides could be hefty.
My other point was to see if another lexus dealership can make it happen if benz can do it. You might just be dealing with a sales person who’s not up to speed.
