My wife and I in the market for a small SUV. Live in Philly but moving to Boston in five weeks… and we love going up into NH/VT/ME for outdoor activities. We narrowed search down to CX-5 and Forester, and I think we’ve decided on the Forester.
I’ve negotiated the following deal:
2016 Forester Touring with eyesight/nav and popular package number 2.
MSRP: $33,892
Sale price: $30,531
36 month / 12,000 mi/yr
59% residual
.00075 money factor
If we did 0 down, it would be 388 with all fees and taxes included.
Is this a great deal, or just a good one? What else can I do to put myself in a better position?
If the MF you got has no markup, then you can only try negotiate a better sale price. You are getting about $850 under invoice. Try to get more - $1.2-1.5K. Forester is a great choice, BTW.
Thank you. Are there other comparable cars that have significantly better deals at the moment? I know 2017s are coming out soon, but we are not really in a position to wait, unfortunately.
For outdoors - there is nothing better than a Subaru in a small SUV class, IMO. But you can probably find better lease deals on others - maybe Jeep. Subaru never provides lease incentives.
Probably for FWD? AWD In Philadelphia:
"XC60 T5 AWD PREMIER
Lease for $375 mo. 36 mos.
$4,055 cash due at signing
Monthly payment of $375, based on $43,405 MSRP of 2016 XC60 T5 AWD Premier with Heated Seats and Metallic Paint, includes destination charge and application of $1,000 Volvo Allowance, $1,000 Spring Bonus and $500 Lease Bonus.
"
Subaru in my opinion has leased poorly in the past which I thought was weird since the resale values are so high. My dad has leased 4 of them and he always ends up buying the car at the end of lease and trading it right in that day and ending up ahead.
Seems like a good sale price on the forester, probably because the 2017’s are 2 months away.
You are looking at a National offer. Call a Volvo dealer and told them you saw the below in an ad:
Have them match it or improve it!!!
In any case, some brands lease better than others depending on the region/state. For instance, I cannot get a FWD Highlander XLE in FL for less than $500/month but the same can be had in IL or MA for $320/month.
In my opinion, $388/month is very steep for a Forrester. I understand it is a very capable car but in terms of aesthetics it lacks a lot. For similar pricing, I’d also look into the Infinity QX50, Mazda CX-9 or other Japanese alternatives before taking the plunge on a Subaru. Good luck with your car hunting!
@NE12 lives in Philly, so I showed example for Philly zip code, not National. Dealers will structure their own deals, of course.
True, the Forester is never a good lease.
If you look at the disclaimer, that deal is on a car with an MSRP of $38,945. The one you linked is $7k more. Might still be a worthwhile lease, but then again, FWD base model is likely sparse.
