Sorry if I ask in the wrong forum. Please help me to move to the proper forums if it’s the case…
I have a friend who leased a bmw i3 about the same time as me and returned it 1 month ago. He said the dealer charged him $600 for the wears and tears of the tires as well as $350 return fee… He already replaced 2 out of 4 tires before… I just wonder if I should replace all the tires before i turned in the car or it just doesn’t make sense as I won’t be able to find the same type of tires outside the bmw dealers? Just wonder if i can save up any unreasonable charge from the dealer when I returned the car…
Minimum tread depth should be reflected on your lease agreement or materials BMWFS had been sending prior to end of term. Go to a tire shop and have them measure the tread depth and if above the min requirements record it on their letterhead or an RO. If the dealer claims you are overdue for tires you can dispute it with the tire shops measurement.
The $350 is likely the disposition fee, which is standard for most leases when you return the car (although the amount varies between manufacturers). As others have said, check the minimum tread depth in your contract and have your treads checked. If they’re below, you can try to find used tires that have tread greater than the minimum, but it might be hard since the i3 uses a very unique tire size.
