So I’m wondering what you all think I should do. I have a 22 g80 m3 comp rwd, that’s still worth about what I paid for it. I have in round numbers 50k in equity and wondering what my next move should be. I’m not necessarily looking for a future collectible, but something that won’t depreciate like a 7 series either. I’d prefer a manual, hence why selling the g80. So these are the best options in my mind, but open to other thoughts. Also I like Porsches but can’t honestly justify what they are currently going for.
G80 m3cs 6-speed (idk if I can even get one)
Reg g80 m3/g87 m2 6 speed.
Ct4v or ct5v blackwing 6 speed
Or something very cool with an auto:
C8 z06
M2cs
2024 m4 cs.
Keep the g80.
I know it’s a good problem to have and thanks for your help and thoughts
CT5V all day. Who doesn’t want a big fat V8 sedan with a proper gearbox? Plus you typically see way less of them than all your other options (except maybe the CS M cars)
Are you just bored with the current 22 G80? It’s a great vehicle. You could see if a broker could secure an allocation, but I wouldn’t expect a discount.
To be honest, I’m not sure if it’ll fully scratch that itch. If you want something a little more playful, find a G87 with 6MT that’s a few years old. I currently drive a 24 G87 with 6MT and it’s my daily.
I guess I’m just trying to figure out if its worth it to climb up the next step of the “specialness” ladder. I have no doubt the smart thing to do is just keep the g80. But I’m starting to get to the point where maintenance is going to get costly (not outrageous) and just thinking that with a new loan for 35k I can kick the maintenance can down the road for another 5 years and get a new car to boot.
That’s actually going to be the next color for my 27 G63. Deep green, worth the $6,500 price of entry.
As for the original question, I’ll just say the price of entry is not the same as the price of ownership. Porsches yes have risen to crazy levels, but if you can find the right vehicle, the effectively monthly can be very affordable, assuming you can swing insurance, gas, etc.
That doesn’t mean get a Ferrari, but for 1 year, it cost me more than 3 times as much effective monthly to drive a $140,000 Range Rover than a $220,000 G63.
